The Barong dance is the classic story of good (The Barong) triumphing over evil ( The evil witch Rangda).

The Barong is a large lion type creature played by two men, Rangda is the epitome of evil with long fingernails and droopy breasts.

The Barong is going about his business until he is interrupted by Rangda.

Ultimately a battle ensues and the Barong’s followers begin attacking Rangda with their Keris (daggers).

Rangda, being a witch, is able to use magical powers to turn the daggers against their owners, who fall into a trance and try to stab themselves.

The Ubud Monkey Forest lies within the village of Padangtegal.

The village's residents view the Monkey Forest as an important spiritual, economic, educational, and conservation center for the village

Based on the analysis of the Pura Purana (a holy book made from palm tree leaves as a historical document of the temple)The temples in The Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary area are built around the middle of the 14th century. When the kingdoms in Bali were ruled by Dynasty of Pejeng or can also be said about the beginning of Gelgel Dynasty.

There are three temples in the area of Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary :Pura Dalem Agung (The Main Temple), Pura Beji (Beji Temple), Pura Prajapati (Prajapati Temple).

The Tegallalang Rice Terraces in Ubud are famous for their beautiful scenes of rice paddies and their innovative irrigation system. Known as the subak, the traditional Balinese cooperative irrigation system is said to have been passed down by a revered holy man named Rsi Markandeya in the 8th century. Tegallalang forms the 3 most splendid terraced landscapes in Ubud's shared region, with the others being in the villages of Pejeng and Campuhan.
